Concrete mixer, how to use itand all information for the preparation of mortar and other mixtures directly in the loading tank of theconcrete mixer.

If you have recently purchased a small concrete mixer or have rented one in DIY centers or on a construction site, this guide on its use is for you. If you have not yet purchased or do not have oneconcrete mixer, we refer you to the article dedicated to the prices of this machine: Small concrete mixer, prices and advice.

Below we will explain how the concrete mixer is used. They exist on the marketconcrete mixersvery economical and accessible, these are small concrete mixers that keep the classic H structure but have a tank with a very low load capacity, from 60 to 350 kilograms. For a smaller quantity of material you can evaluate the use of a mixer operated by a special electric motor or drill mixer (it is used like a drill fuse).

How the concrete mixer is made and what it is used for

In agriculture theconcrete mixerit is used to mix fertilizers, seeds or feed for livestock. In the construction field, theconcrete mixerit is used for the preparation of bituminous mixtures, resins, paints, concrete or mortar.

Looking at theconcrete mixeryou will notice a large steel plate glass mounted on a rotating axis. Mixing bars are fixed in the cup. An electric motor, external to the tumbler, rotates the concrete mixer tank by means of a pinion and crown or direct drive transmission system.

On the side of the machine there is asteering wheelequipped with a stop. The steering wheel allows you to orient the mouth upwards during loading and downwards to pour the freshly mixed mixture.

How to make mortar in the concrete mixer

For information on preparing the mortar, please read the article: Mortar, proportions and doses (greasy mortar, bastard mortar, lime mortar, cement mortar, concrete…).

Concrete mixer, how to use it

To preserve the machine, before turning it off, it will be necessary to rinse it with plenty of water to avoid rapid encrustations. The concrete mixer should be washed when still active so as to take advantage of the rotating motion of the glass to help in the cleaning phase.

Here is in sequence how to use the concrete mixer to prepare a mortar. For the proportions (the doses to be poured into the glass of the concrete mixer) between aggregates and binders, we invite you once again to read the article dedicated to proportions and doses to prepare the different types of mortar or concrete. Concrete mixer, how to use it:

- 1) The dry aggregates are added one at a time and allowed to mix.

Activate the concrete mixer and with the tank rotating, add the dry sand necessary to prepare your mixture. Add any amount of gravel and let it rotate for a few minutes.

- 2) Add the binder (or binders in the case of bastard mortar) and let them mix.

Still with the machine spinning, add the necessary cement. The cement should not be added all together but divided in order not to raise a terrible fuss around the machine.

- 3) Gradually add the water and let it rotate.

Gradually add the water to mix the dough. If you need a very liquid cement to take advantage of the self-leveling effect of the fluids, add a lot of water, alternatively add a little.

- 4) Check the contents of the glass and make sure that the components are perfectly blended with each other thanks to the rotating movement of the mixer.

Let the mixer rotate for several minutes and check that the mixture does not have lumps before proceeding with the withdrawal of your mixture.

- 5) Turn the glass over

Using the steering wheel, overturn the still rotating glass and pour the contents of the tub into a transport wheelbarrow.

- 6) Machine rinsing

As stated, the concrete mixer must be washed when still in operation. Rinse with plenty of high pressure water to avoid encrustations.
