Transylvanian Hound, a dog originally from Hungary that has an almost unrecognizable name at home for those who do not know the language: Erdelyi Kopo. It belongs to the group of bloodhounds and dogs, has a short and well-fitting coat, in most cases black, but not only. It exists in large or small versions and is said to derive from the cross between Hungarian, Hungarian and Polish dogs.

Born to dedicate himself to fox and hare hunting, it is still used primarily for this purpose, even if the larger variety of Transylvanian Hound it is also often unleashed to chase large game: wild boar, deer, fallow deer and lynx.

Transylvanian Hound: characteristics

Very solid and well proportioned, the Transylvanian Hound he has an enviable musculature that can be said to be sculpted. This breed, also due to its calling from hunting dog, it is inevitably very energetic and powerful. It falls within the medium-sized hounds whether it is the greater or the lesser variety. In the first case, the height at the withers is about 55-65cm, for the smaller variety we go down to 45-50 cm.

In both measures, the Transylvanian Hound it has a well proportioned trunk and straight back, a broad head and a full muzzle with visibly powerful jaws. The nose shows nostrils always well open and is black, the ears, attached at medium height, fall widening and then finish with a rounded tip. Finally, the very expressive eyes are of dark brown color and medium large, usually slightly oblique.

Transylvanian Hound: farms

In Italy there is only one breeding recognized by ENCI that deals with this breed and is located in the province of Cosenza. La Cava is the home breeding farm and in addition to our hound it also has other breeds: the Istrian hound, the Petit Bleu de Gascogne and l'Ariegeois. Between more recurring defects to which a breeder, and a future owner of the Transylvanian Hound must be careful there are bad ears, a depigmented nose, a clear eye and an aggressive or excessively shy character.

Transylvanian Hound: Character

Given the flaws, we discover the true character of this hunting dog, always excellent and very resistant but also very lovable despite being dedicated to work rather than to domestic and naughty life. He has an excellent sense of smell and is easy to train, his nature from birth proves to be bold and tenacious. When he goes hunting with his master he is very brave but in moments of pause he does not miss an affectionate gesture. It barks sharply, but almost only when it "works", it is not a dog that disturbs at random.

Transylvanian Hound: price

To know the price of a puppy of this breed It is advisable to contact the breeding directly, which can also provide us with one to find out if one is available. Despite being a non-aggressive dog, it is not suitable for everyone and in addition to the price it is also good to know the essential characteristics that we must have to to be able to live well with a hound so. It is necessary to be able to insure them long walks and show him affection and loyalty because he is an animal that has a nose and if we are not honest he feels it immediately.
